The Corona Virus has made a big difference in how we used to work, play and learn. Schools and colleges have been closed, sports leagues, runway shows have been canceled, and many have been asked to work from home.
The way we dress is closely pegged to how we live. As COVID-19 has revamped day-to-day life for millions, it has definitely left its impact on the clothes we wear. So how are you staying connected in a time of social distancing? I assume only through digital technologies that are available today.
Nowadays, as people have initiated to operate work from home strategies, that include virtual meetings on Google Hangout, FaceTime, etc. which leads to the fashion question “ what to wear from the waist up? “.
In general terms, most of the employees won’t care what you are wearing while working from home as long as you get the work done. It can be enticing to be falling into a uniform of sweatpants and pajamas while working for an extended time.
Besides all of this, staying cozy for a few days is good for your mental health, especially when you’re going through such a tough time. To be honest, women spend at least an hour to get completely dressed, whereas your sweats and pajamas do not even require ironing which gets to you an early start to your busy day.
Not only our day-to-day fashion has been affected but the epidemic has also majorly impacted the fashion industry negatively. It has escalated in the midst of the fall 2020 fashion month season, which has caused the brands and the design houses to shut their doors and also postpone upcoming runway shows like Met Gala and the CFDA Awards.
Some of the design houses like:
- CHANEL, On March 18 announced that it is halting production in its facilities in Italy, France, and Switzerland for the next two weeks; however, the workers are still being paid.
- Gap Inc., owns Old Navy, banana republic and Gap, furloughed 80,000 store workers due to the pandemic.
Gucci, On March 12 announced that its Sicily, Italian production will remain close till March 20 as a safety measure.
- Revlon furloughed some of its workers and some work for reduced hours for less pay.
Not just the design houses but COVID-19 has led to a number of postponing and cancellation of fashion weeks including:
- Australia Fashion Week
- Bridal Fashion Week
- Helsinki Fashion Week
- Milan Fashion Week Fall 2020
- Milan Men’s Fashion Week Spring 2021
- Paris Men’s Fashion Week and Couture Week
- Paris Fashion Week Fall 2020
- Sao Paolo Fashion Week
- Tokyo Fashion Week
- Valmont Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week
- Shanghai and Beijing Fashion Week
The Surgical Face Mask:
Almost every event, design house, etc in the fashion industry got affected because of this Corona Virus crisis. But one thing has become the new fashion statement even in this tough time and that is the surgical face mask.
Now, let’s talk about the trendy surgical face mask. Of course, the mask was being worn long before the outbreak of COVID-19 – like in the cities with air pollution, for hiding faces during rallies by the activists and by many other healthy citizens of East Asia in crowded places. Even while traveling by a means of public transport, people often use this kind of masks to avoid infections.
Masks are so in demand, even more than the hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes. You can say masks are now known as the virus’s avatar. These masks are everywhere and have set a place as the new fashion statement in the world. Resourced by Just Design Institute.
